Absolutely satisfied with their services. When I was traveling somewhere in Central Asia recently, my travel agent Hong even checked on us during our trip to make sure we are alright.

Exotissimo are a bit more expensive than the rest but the service is totally worth it.

2 days Ha Long Bay trip:
+ very good transportation
+ good guide
- Mithrid hotel in Ha Long Bay not worth for its price. If you don´t enjoy mouldy smell and walls, take another option.

5 stars may be a stretch but I think the place deserves it. Nowhere did I encounter such efficient service of any kind in Hanoi than from Ms. Hong. I used their services- ticketing, hotel bookings and tour bookings all this year and I never had any problems with her.

The thing is, my travel behaviour is quite different from a lot of people and I love to go on a real off the beaten track destinations and instead of being frustrated, Ms. Hong have been very patient with me and always have given me the best deals. They helped me a great deal with my trip to Burma, Indonesia, Philippines, Mongolia and soon India and Nepal.

It's no easy feat to organise trips from such a travel backwater as Hanoi, but with Ms. Hong, made my life much more bearable. :)

After reading about their sponsorship of The Word magazine's trip to Laos, I emailed Exotissmo re: a family trip to Laos. I immediately received an confirm email of what I wrote, followed by an email the next day from Exotissmo thanking me for contacting them and that someone would send me an email shortly with my requested information. Later that same day, I got another nice email from someone in the Laos office saying that she looked forward to assisting me and that I'd hear from her shortly. That was a week ago, and now I've given up waiting for the information.
I contacted my regular agent A1class Travel, based here in Hanoi, who got back to me within 24 hours with all sorts of detailed information.

One star for the nice emails.

Update: August 13 2010 -- Almost immediately after posting this review, I was contacted by Delphine at Exotissmo who asked for details so she could follow up to discover what went wrong. Within 24 hours, I received two very detailed proposals in response to my requirements. Changing review to 4 stars, and if the next time I contact them, things go smoothly, will make it 5

[This review will be much more accurate in letter form, so here goes...]

Dear Exotissimo,
Oh, Exotissimo, I want to like you more. You seem so swish, so together, so organized, in that matching-socks-with-window-coverings way.

But here's the thing: you don't meet my needs 100% of the time. Not even like, 60% of the time. Yes, you're great at organizing the group tour and customized tour stuff -- particularly for fussy people like my family when they visited. And yeah, you've got the know-how when it comes to booking international flights and all the bits and bobs that go with them. (I especially appreciate, btw, how accurate the itineraries are that you send - copied and pasted directly from the booking program, Sabre.)

But many of your agents have difficulties communicating clearly in English, and this has resulted in more than a handful of major mix-ups in my past 2.5 years' dealings with you. And when I complain, rather than trying to fix my problem with customer service skills, you simply "blacklist" me (don't think I don't know this -- I can tell when I call) and pass me off on another agent, this time hoping she's strong enough - or is it sweet enough - to deal with the frustrated Tay who really just wants to know why the flight at 9 pm is $200 more than the flight at 6 pm.

What really irritates me, though, Exotissimo, is your policy about paying for tickets. There are two parts of this policy that absolutely drive me nuts. The first is that paying with my credit card - or even my ANZ Vietnam debit card - is more expensive than paying cash. This practice is, I think, unfair and unethical. The second part that drives me nuts is the policy about payment before tickets are issued. While I could understand this if I had walked off the street and you didn't know me, I DO NOT understand it when I am a reliable client, and you even know where I work and live, for crying out loud. You *know* I get paid every month, and you *know* I am going to purchase the ticket by now -- don't you? Why the stupid policy for long-standing and consistently reliable clients?

I guess what I'm trying to say, Exotissimo, is that I don't feel like you value our relationship -- you know, that one that keeps you in business and keeps me using your services to travel 'round this great big world. Please know that I am considering ending our relationship, because I've heard about these other not-so-swanky travel agencies in Hanoi who value this relationship more than anything else, and well, what am I getting out of this relationship, other than detailed itineraries and glossy magazine brochures?

From a not-unhappy-but-not-happy-either client,
A
