Is fruit relatively expensive here or am I being overcharged? For example, I've paid 75 cents for a mango from two different street vendors here and they cost about a dollar at Asian markets in the U.S. Today I got some strawberries from a lady on a bicycle and she wanted to charge me 30k but ended up taking 10K. I don't know how much they weighed but it wasn't much - maybe enough to fill a coffee mug. Does that sound right? Thanks

Does anyone know if distilled water is available for purchase in Vietnam. I have a client wishing to travel here who is travelling with a CPAP machine which needs distilled water, NOT bottled water.

Though I am sure about moving to Vietnam this summer to teach English and travel for the following year, I haven't yet made up my mind if I want to live in one of the big cities or smaller town like Da Nang. I'll have time to travel around before settling. My question is a simple one: is the job market about as good in a smaller town like Da Nang as in HCMC? If you're moving without a Work Permit, do you think a small town might be risky because the schools will have more oversight from the police? Or should I not worry about it and trust that as long as there are English schools, there is the opportunity to work? I've got plenty of years of experience teaching and a CELTA Pass A to defend myself with. Lastly, what are some of the towns with good expat communities and good work oppor...

This country is a nice country. Unfortunately, many locals have been talking about the bad chemicals in the food that farmers have used to keep the fruit, vegetables, and meat fresh. Additionally, lots of food is being imported from China. One case said that some chicken eaten today is being imported from either the 1960s or 1970s. One case stated that they have chemicals to turn pork into beef. Another case stated some are suffering from sickness and death due to the harmful chemicals in the food. The last case heard was that in some restaurants, they were reusing the old hotpot water from other restaurants to save money. With all these food issues, many people have decided to not go to restaurants or buy food from local farmers. Of course, we wish that something was being done about a...

I've been buying my Hanoi Beer from the same place for over ten years and they've been getting more and more slack about delivery. Sure, I understand, I used to live in an apartment a few blocks from them and now the house I bought is a few miles away PLUS they've recently moved even farther out. In short, now they quote a good price (155k) but they aren't meeting their delivery schedule. I need a new beer distributor. The guy next to Chua Lang sold me some Larue a few years ago but won't even talk to me anymore. Can anyone suggest a distributor reasonably close to Chua Lang, Dong Da? I buy five cases of 450s at a time but I guess I could increase that to ten if necessary.

Friends who visit from overseas sometimes ask about the eggs on sale in the markets and shops here and say they suppose they're from free-range chickens. I suspect most of the eggs are not from free-range chickens but really have no idea, and lately I've been wondering about the matter a lot. Does anyone know how eggs are generally produced here?

When bringing ice cream home from the supermarket on my motorbike on a hot day, will it stay colder longer in the under-seat compartment or in a bag hanging from a hook? For you fact-oriented scientific types, assume a 1 km ride on a Honda Lead in 35 degree weather. Any good tips for keeping it cold? Thanks and have fun answering.
