Went to Barbetta last night. As always the positives were:- nice decor, pleasant terrace but what was lacking was the service.
We had to repeat drinks orders 6 or 7 times- the waiters had no pen and paper to write down what we were asking for and so consequently kept forgetting things! Ordered steak but they were out of mashed potatoes and the comedy moment of the night came when I ordered some potato wedges and they arrived with 2 cocktail sticks to eat them. I asked for a fork and the waiter looked confused and repeated "a fork?" and I said yes and repeated. After coming back again to ask what we wanted and repeating yet again, he approached our table with a spoon. I shook my head and said again that I wanted a fork. He looked perplexed, shook his head and said "No have.". "Yes you do" I replied. My friend had some paper and drew a picture of a fork, to which he looked and then shook his head again and said "No have".
So there you have it, Barbetta do not have forks, so be careful if you decide you want to order mashed potato or pasta:- it could get messy!
Original interior decoration with vintage movie/music posters, pleasant atmosphere, good music, nice rooftop terrace at night.
On the other hand:
- mediocre food
- really SLOOOW service, so you will usually have to wait for at least an hour to get the ordered food, and if you are very very lucky the waiter will not forget what the order was...
- bad quality of alcohol in mixed drinks, so maybe, you'd better stick to beer or wine
I was there two days ago. Oi gioi oi *facepalm*
I remembered Barbetta as a nice place with good food, but the steak I ordered was downright awful, impossible to cut, let alone to chew :( and if was medium rare, although I actually asked for rare. Seriously, it officially was The Worst Steak I ever Had In My Life. They brought the wrong sauce too.
The waiter looked very confused - that kind of confused like when they don't understand anything you're saying but say 'ok' anyway; not good for the place popular with foreigners.
The strawberry smoothie was delicious, although megaexpensive - 80 or even 85 thousand; and the atmosphere's still nice - hence the two stars, but the experience overall was rather disappointing.
Haven't been to many bars in Hanoi yet so I can't comment on how Barbetta compares to the rest but I had a wonderful experience here.
Great atmosphere with a strong factory/graffiti themed layout, it gives off the rugged vibe with old oil barrels as tables and yet the whole place is kept reasonably clean for the enjoyment of customers.
Music was great and the DJ area was a sight to behold with colour changing lights and the table looks to be put together with various machine parts in accordance with the factory theme.
All in all a great place, I took one star off for the slightly tardy service.
They would normally only get a three star rating from me, but the decor and amazing rooftop patio push it to four.
Honestly, the service is so bad. I went with a friend and we were not served at our table at all. This would have been fine, however a couple other tables seemed to be. We tried to call the server over and he actually laughed at us.
Anyway, the bartender was pretty great, and even though the drinks are on the expensive side, it makes for a lovely night out. Next time I might try the 2 for 1 happy hour.
