Description: Bloom Microventures is a non-profit social business (registered UK charity) providing microcredit to entrepreneurs living below the poverty line in developing countries using a unique model that harnesses the power of responsible tourism with microcredit to alleviate poverty.

Break away from the typical tourist trail for a day in Vietnam's verdant countryside harvesting vegetables, fishing, or visiting historic sites—and meeting rural women in need of startup financial support to generate a sustainable income.

Bloom Microventures is the only organization in Vietnam that combines the power of microfinance and responsible tourism to fight poverty. Day trips to the greater Hanoi area link tourists with people in need. Your $65 fee helps fund one of our selected local borrowers. With just a small loan these women can become self-sufficient and provide for themselves and their families.

We will spend a few hours visiting these women and with the help of our translators you will learn about the challenges facing disadvantaged women in Vietnam as well as the local history and culture of the community. Lunch is a traditional meal at the house of a local borrower and a highlight of the day.

I went on the trip to Soc Son last weekend and was very impressed by all the team at Bloom. I've been living in Hanoi for 4 years and working in tourism and very few tours really give you meaningful interactions with local people. For one of the first times, I didn't feel like another 'sheep' on a tour. The team understand the negative impacts that tourism can have on a destination and through their development expertise they have managed to bridge a connection between development and tourism, which is a very hard task. For anyone looking for something different to do or who has friends visiting who would like to see more than Halong Bay, Sapa, Mai Chau etc etc I highly recommend this day trip. Please also don't be put off by the cost, some of the money goes directly to changing the livlihood of local people so you really are putting something back in a sustainable way. All I can say is good luck to the team and I hope the local expat/Vietnamese community supports this fantastic initiative.

What an incredible idea! The team at Bloom have done an amazing job establishing this project, and it's definitely making a difference. The tour offers a chance to be welcomed into a community that you wouldn't normally see if you are stuck in Hanoi all the time or just briefly visiting. The ladies themselves are so friendly and generous with their homes and information, and you can really see that the help they are getting is doing some good. It was a wonderful day that I would highly recommend to everyone. Please don't be stingy with your donation, every VND goes towards helping someone have a better life.

Incredible!!! The Bloom Microventure tours are absolutely amazing - the scenery in Soc Son is spectacular, the lunch is delicious and most importantly, you have the opportunity and the privilege to connect with the community, learn more about their culture and invest in their lives. I came away feeling energised and inspired by the passion and commitment that the Bloom team show in using tourism as a vehicle to contribute positively to development in Viet Nam.

I highly recommend this tour!!

I am a teacher in Hanoi and was lucky enought to take students on a Bloom Microventures day excursion. I felt that this was a great educational experience for the students as they got to witness first hand the benefits the micro loans have within the surrounding communities. The reason that this excursion was so successful was that it was really enjoyable for the students and there was constant chatter back at school between students about the animals that they had seen or how big the fish was that they caught! This was definately a great learning experience for students outside the classroom.

I was lucky enough to attend Microventures first tour to Soc Son. I have to say, that this was definitely the best tour I have ever taken in Hanoi. The Bloom team definitely "gets it" when it comes to connecting travellers with local people, while always showing utmost respect for the local community.
