I should be clear here, I haven't stayed at the hotel as I live in Hanoi so cannot comment on the rooms but I have used the services here. The staff are friendly and helpful but the outside contractors they use are not. We were charged an enormous markup on some train tickets we booked through the hotel, well above the 'delivery' rate we agreed (actually 15 times higher). The tickets were delivered with stickers over the price on the ticket so it could not be read. Once we removed the stickers we went back but we had handed over the money by then and weren't going to see it again.

Bodega is the only place I would recommend to any friends or family coming to Hanoi. I was initially going to stay here myself when I first arrived but due to a mix-up with my online reservation was unable to get a room with a bath, so they kindly paid for a taxi to take me to their sister hotel the Atlantic, on Hang Cot (which is also very nice).

When my mother and sister came for xmas and new years they stayed here and loved it. The staff are fantistic - always friendly and will go out of their way to help you with anything. Upon returning from a xmas trip to Ha Long Bay I realised I had left some belongings on the tour bus that dropped us off - the staff didn't hesitate to phone the company and let them know and kept calling while we waited for the driver who had the keys to that bus to answer his phone. They showed me on the map where the depot was as I planned on driving up there that evening to get my things, but after coming back from dinner discovered that one of them had already gone there for me.

The manager is also the brother of the guy who runs APT travel and as a result they are able to give good deals on organised trips to perfume pagoda, ha long, tam coc etc.

My mother and sister stayed in one of the $30/night rooms that was spacious, had an en suite with shower and bath, a balcony overlooking Hang Bong, a large TV with cable, 2 massive queen or king sized beds, fridge etc.

The only thing worth warning against is the ground floor rooms behind reception - they get a lot of noise from the front desk, for some reason it feels like you're actually sitting in reception. The upstairs rooms are really well sound proofed however, which makes a big difference when you're on a busy street like Hang Bong.

The location is convenient to the cathedral, hoan kiem lake and pretty much everywhere within the old quarter - there are also 2 hapro marts just up the street.

No review of Bodega would be complete without a special mention for Huong, perhaps the greatest hotel reception staff in the business. Her enthusiasm for helping guests (or the family of guests) is incredible and genuine to the extent that she contacted me a few days after my family left to check that they had got home safely. She also helped a friend of mine find a place to live in Hanoi when she stayed there, taking her house hunting and checking out different places with her, and recently checked with my friend and I to see if we knew of any rooms available for another guest who was looking for a place to live. She really is an absolute treasure and an ideal first point of contact for any questions or concerns when in Hanoi.

I honestly feel that I can't praise Bodega highly enough - the furnishings are well beyond what I expected in a 3 star hotel, the rooms are much bigger than any others I've seen in Hanoi and the staff make you feel like you're coming into your own home every time you walk through the door.

This little establishment is where I lived at during my first days in Hanoi before finding an apartment. It is spacious, clean, very reasonably priced with the 20 dollars / night, breakfast's included (bread and jam + juice), it has wifi and downstairs computer you can use free of charge, and it's very centrally located. If you want convenience with good price, this is the way to go.

With tall ceilings and heavy dark-wood doors, The Bodega Hotel is one of the best all-around hotels I've stayed in. The room was clean and well-maintained. Breakfast in the mornings was nice and there was a TV in the breakfast room where the staff let me and my girlfriend watch The Simpsons Movie on DVD. When we checked out, we were on our way to get a train to Hue. The staff was amazing. They sent someone with us in a cab to the train, helped us get our tickets, and then showed us to our sleeper cabin on the train. A great place, well-priced, excellent staff.
