The great thing about Mr. Kien is that he is only one of all the agents I have been looking for a house with that sat down with me first and listened (I mean really listened) to what I was looking for and in which area. We took a map and just looked at the different districts and areas. He listened so well, that we only had to visit 2 houses and then I found the right one! While with other agents it took me hours and many houses and I still was not happy.
Due to the fact that my landlord does not speak English I still call (and need) Mr. Kien regularly. He helps me every time, even though all contracts etc. are already signed. This is exactly what a foreigner needs when living in Hanoi I think!
For all agents in Hanoi I would say, don’t make your decision based on what is published online or on this website. Most of it is outdated and not for rent anymore. But this is more a general tip. Just call Mr. Kien sit with him, and he’ll show you what is available and he will send you pictures of the house afterwards for further thinking purposes!
We got the whole thing arranged in just a few days. I can really recommend him and his company!
When I arrived in Hanoi, as a condition of working for my company I had ten days in which to find accommodation; when I explained this to Mr Kien he was very helpful and accommodated me in viewing properties immediately. The contract for the property I chose was clear and Mr Kien clearly explained how costs etc worked in Vietnam. Since then Mr Kien has been consistently helpful - for example, when I had blocked and backing-up interior drains (a nasty experience that was starting to attract cockroaches in the bathroom), he came around in the evening when (unknown to him) I wasn't there, called me to find out where I was, and reappeared the next morning to sort it out. I would recommend this company - trustworthy and helpful landlords are always a big worry when moving somewhere new and unfamiliar!
When my family and I decided to move, there was no question about who we would call to help us find a new place. Mr. Kien is "The Man". This was our second move and both times were a fairly pleasant experience. Mr. Kien is attentive to your needs and works hard to find the right place for the right price. We especially appreciate that he continues to call and check on you after the deal is done and you are completely moved in. I highly recommend!
Kien's definitely the real deal. He found the sort of place I was looking for pretty quickly then negotiated a good price with the landlord. He arranged some people to help me move and even bent his back on the day.
Since then he's been in contact a few times to make sure I'm happy with the place, and I don't doubt that if there was a problem I couldn't resolve with the landlord that he'd help straight away.
I've dealt with other agents in the past who've ranged from terrible to just OK, and Kien stands out for the simple fact that he realises that finding what you want is good for his business as well as for you.
Mr Kien is very pleasant and professional. Unfortunately I felt he really did not "get" what I was looking for. He showed me one great place, but over my budget and even though he managed to negotiate it down significantly, in the end I did not take that property. The 5 or 6 other places he showed me were a complete waste of time, not in the least bit suitable, the only thing that was right was the price. Verdict for me: of the 4 agents I used he was one of the most pleasant but with the worst selection of properties.
