A GIRL'S DREAM COME TRUE.
This place is huge and amazing and wonderful and beautiful. They stock special designer's clothing that caters to a range of tastes.
Definitely coming back and dropping some big DONG on this place.
"Elegant" is probably the best word to sum up the experience at Tanmy Design Cafe. It truly is one of those rare elegant experiences one can have in a cafe. The shop has previously been reviewed and stocks a dazzling array of quality homewares and clothing.
The cafe compliments this really nicely with everything about the experience being designed to make customers feel at ease and provide a respite from the heat and frantic shopping. Most likely, the predominant customers in here will be tourists - however, think about giving it a shot if you are in the area. You'll probably be pleasantly surprised.
The menu is comprehensive, from drinks, to snacks, breakfast, lunch, full meals etc. They run a number of specials, including VND75,000 for a coffee and pastry. And they are really good pastries - soft, fluffy, buttery and very fresh. Coffee is quite nice - they use Punto Italia as their supplier and have a very upmarket space-age coffee machine on the counter. Cold drinks are also good - fresh juices in generously large glasses. Perfect for the summer heat.
Tanmy cafe is connected to the Press Club so expect prices to be a little high. But by no means obscenely high. And from what I could see, pretty good value for money all around. Certainly I had no complaints.
If you are in the Old Quarter and looking for an elegant stop to escape the heat and bustle, Tanmy is a worthy option. Comfortable couches, cool air and very professional staff. The whole package.
Tanmy Cafe also do a Happy Hour special in late afternoons/early evenings where you can get 2 drinks for the price of one! Nice!
Fantastic: 800 sqm of elegant, modern space that offers one-of-a-kind pieces to add to your home furnishings or wardrobe (unique napkin rings I haven't seen before, nice embroidered tunics, tailored jackets with unique embroidery work. I like the modern twist on some of the ethnic Hmong skirts/jackets). I also liked that they had racks organized by designers, from Vietnam to Japan. They also have Western sizes up to XL.
Great: The sales girls were nice and not overly attentive (hovering). Really like the eclectic mix of clothes, not casual everyday wear but unique, wardrobe additions (vintage velvet jacket, Sgt. Pepper-like tailored coat...)
Good: Pricing is "high" for Hanoi but a "steal" compared to Western boutiques.
This shop is brilliant and Domingorio has completely missed the point. The Vietnamese staff in Tan My Designs are polite and attentive. If they follow you around the shop it's for the sole purpose of assisting you with sizes and changing rooms. I've worked in retail as well... How about appreciating the fact that these staff are courteous, well presented, speak English and can arrange to have your size made for you if its not available. Theft is the last thing on their minds.
The fashion may fluctuate but it's high quality and unique. I bought five gorgeous silk dresses on my last visit - all of which would not look out of place in the London boutiques I normally visit. I also bought up big on home wares, linen and a stunning silk bed spread.
I wore a Tan My dress to a wedding last week and received loads of comments about how lovely it was - and numerous requests for where people could buy one!
This place is definitely worth visiting. It's an oasis of clean lines and white space filled with high end fashion and a fantastic cafe - perfect for a cool drink to escape the heat. Tan My across the road is equally worth a visit!
