I saw this restaurant in Xuan dieu last year but did not come in as it looks dark inside. But when i passed Hang tre street and reliase same name I decided to try. Food was good and atmosphare was nice also. Their fish roll was yummy.
Had dinner here last night, in the new section (number 3). Was a nice cool evening so we sat outside on level 3 overlooking the street. Passed on the low-slung tables with the space underneath due to one member of our party having rather long legs.
I have to say it was a very enjoyable evening. The staff were excellent and a little Vietnamese went a long way in communicating intentions. We had no trouble with service whatsoever and, judging by the other two tables in our section, neither did others. Perhaps past comments have been listened to.
Food - was pretty good really. Came prepared for average, based on reviews over the last few months and had expectations slightly exceeded. We ordered:
Grilled buffalo, which was not overly chewy, nice and spicy-hot with good all round flavour - it was pretty darned hot actually so if not for you, best to ask for it mild - we loved it;
Grilled/satay squid which was really delicious and the highlight dish. Well cooked, pretty tender and flavoursome;
Green mango salad which was typical of this dish and quite pleasant. Big serving which we did not get through;
Catfish spring rolls which were lovely. I am not a huge fan of the Hoisin sauce that went with them but others might be;
A bottle of passionfruit liquer - delicious. Really well done. Not sickly sweet, just right. Went beautifully with beer chasers.
Other tables ordered hot pot dishes etc which smelled lovely from a distance.
Our total bill for three people was about 520k which I think was pretty good given it included drinks.
Definitely will go back again and look to try some more adventurous dishes in future.
Final comment - what would have been a 3 star rating gets lifted to four stars due to the very clean and well maintained toilet on level 3. Nice surprise. Evidence of regular cleaning etc via a chart on the wall. Very impressed - well done. Apparently there is a Highway 4 being developed at Westlake in a lounge style, unsure of opening date but it is on the way.
Highway4 is always a great place to take friends and family visiting Hanoi as they can sample a lot of the local cuisine. It's touristy, but convenient and the price is actually pretty good for a sit down restaurant.
That said, I confess I decided to write a review because I wanted to complain about something. I occasionally use HW4's delivery service, but tonight I found a cockroach leg in my mushrooms. Not cool. Yuck. After a year living here, my hygiene standards are pretty low, but this is not ok.
First of, I have been to highway 4 on many occasions. However, few days ago I went there with a friend for dinner and it was alright. It was alright because when we first arrived and was shown to a table, a waitress told us we couldn't sit at the end of the table because of a potential larger group. Later on, a couple sat next to us, one table away and then two more people. So clearly, there was no larger group with reservation before we came in. So, if we get there first, why aren't we given the courtesy on choosing where we can sit when there were many options?
Throughout the meal, the service was very slow and out of order. We ordered catfish spring rolls first for appetizer and other main course dishes. However, a plate of cooked vegetable came out first and 15 minutes late the catfish spring rolls came with the rest of the meal. Huh, what is the point of having appetizer options when you can't get that first before the main course?
It appears that the service level in this place is degenerating as it get more crowded.
I am eating in this restaurant at 3 Hang Tre street about three times with my colleagues.
First impression: good seating place, nice menu and variety of specialties, especially for those who likes drinking. Food quality: Good.
BUT, what the most important for you when you are eating out that are SERVICE.
I must say that the service quality in this restaurant is very very poor, it is worse. it is worse because of:
- Unfriendly staff: They may not answer to your asking about the food or your orders. They are acting like dumb. If you re-check whether they understand (Vietnamese to Vietnamese)what you order, they may get angry and show bad facial expression: turn purple/red and gazing at you.
- The way to serve food: Staff at Highway4 - 3 Hang Tre is so careless, one of my colleague got the sauce poured on his pant when the staff served us the vegetable. wtf, how they served? No sorry, no apology, no excuse was given.--wtf??. they also did not care how customer will treat with the sauce they poured over.
I am very very dissatisfied, irritated and annoyed with the way highway4 - 3 Hang tre is servicing.
I reluctantly give them 1 star, if possible, I want to give them 1/10 (one tenth) star.
I do recommend you not trying to seat in this restaurant.
I myself will say good bye to such worse restaurant with terrible staff.
If you like Highway4 (Hang Tre)...
