I attended an orchestra concert here a few days ago and a larger event a few months ago. Both times I've enjoyed myself tremendously, even more for just being there and looking around than for the performance. I agree with the previous reviews: the space is visually wonderful in that distinct French Colonial way. The rough-around-the-edges grandeur really does it for me, from the grand and dominating facade to the velvety, almost intimate concert hall. It has a definite feeling of age about it, yes, but that is part of its charm for me. If anything, the Opera House is an endearing place.
As a caveat: both times I've been there have been a few noisy kids. Last time, I had the privilege of watching a grandmother absentmindedly swat her squabbling grandkids with a program for an hour or so in between naps. But hey, that adds some life to a classical performance.
