My sister is coming in a week (staying for a full two weeks) and I am considering doing a train trip to Hoi An, stopping at various places along the way (then flying back to Hanoi from Danang). Has anyone done this kind of a trip? If so what were your experiences and do you have any recommendations for travel arrangements? We would be stopping in Vinh and Hue for sure. Are there any other points of interest that you would recommend?
Does anyone know where you can catch the public bus to the airport? You used to be able to get on at Kim Ma, but someone told me that now it only stops down by the Daewoo. Is it still the number 7 or 17...or have the numbers changed as well?
A good Vietnamese friend of mine is getting married soon, and I need to buy a gift. Yes, I know that tradition calls for money, but I'm not a traditionalist! I'm thinking of a really nice pendulum clock, what do you think? I won't be going to the wedding since it's halfway to HCM.
Though I am sure about moving to Vietnam this summer to teach English and travel for the following year, I haven't yet made up my mind if I want to live in one of the big cities or smaller town like Da Nang. I'll have time to travel around before settling. My question is a simple one: is the job market about as good in a smaller town like Da Nang as in HCMC? If you're moving without a Work Permit, do you think a small town might be risky because the schools will have more oversight from the police? Or should I not worry about it and trust that as long as there are English schools, there is the opportunity to work? I've got plenty of years of experience teaching and a CELTA Pass A to defend myself with. Lastly, what are some of the towns with good expat communities and good work oppor...
This country is a nice country. Unfortunately, many locals have been talking about the bad chemicals in the food that farmers have used to keep the fruit, vegetables, and meat fresh. Additionally, lots of food is being imported from China. One case said that some chicken eaten today is being imported from either the 1960s or 1970s. One case stated that they have chemicals to turn pork into beef. Another case stated some are suffering from sickness and death due to the harmful chemicals in the food. The last case heard was that in some restaurants, they were reusing the old hotpot water from other restaurants to save money. With all these food issues, many people have decided to not go to restaurants or buy food from local farmers. Of course, we wish that something was being done about a...
Hello ! I will be leaving Vietnam in 3 weeks and for salary reasons, I cannot close my Vietnamese Bank account. I will be able to withdraw money from it whilst in Europe. I was wondering what will eventually happen if I do not close my account? Will it just be frozen over a certain period of time ? Thanks !

Hi, I'm looking for Tai Chi lessons here in Hanoi, but it's proving harder than I expected. I've tried google and New Hanoian searches without any luck. I've also checked at most of the gyms and health clubs i can find. Does anyone have any ideas about where else I should look? Thanks!

Hi, Anyone living in Hanoi want to adopt a puppy? I'm living in Hanoi and my dog has just given birth to 2 puppies, they are very cute girls, poodle tiny with brown hairs. Now they are 1 month and a half year old. I dont want to selling them to people who make them reproduce for earning money, and I think there are foreigners living in Hanoi who want to buy dog from breeder or household. So, if you are dog lover and want to adopt her, please contact me. You can send me message or reach me by my skype: carna_lily15.
I study abroad but I come back to hanoi for summer and Christmas break every year . I will be in 11th grade next year. when I come back to hanoi it gets quite lonely because I don't have any friends in Vietnam. what are some ways I can make friends with people my age (17) and can speak English because I can't speak Vietnamese fluently.
I have been dating a Hanoi girl for a year now. We have got very serious. She is wonderful, always nice to me, she sends me long emails saying she loves me, text all the time, calls me day and night, she is jealous if she even thinks I am near another girl, she is careful with money, and bla bla bla. I had a few concerns a few months into the relationship, a brief list follows: She had no relationship status on her facebook She did not even have one picture of me on her facebook, but about 10^4 pictures of other men and about 5000 friends. I mentioned I was going to get my own facebook she insisted I should not do it. She started to tell me how many guys chase her around Hanoi and how she does not care for any of them. On certain weekends she would go to her "grandmas" house...
Hi there, I was wondering whether anyone has a recommendation for a good dentist in Hanoi, specifically one that does teeth whitening (it's all that caphe sua nong - delicious but shocking for my teeth!!). Any ideas??
Hi everyone. I am planning to go to Hanoi this weekend and I am looking for the shop where I can get Bird Cages (Made with bamboo, Made in Vietnam). Does anyone know where can I get them? (Any street or name of the shop?) Thank you
Anybody know where to get psyllium husk? It's found in most health food shops, some delicatessens and some supermarkets in Australia. I've looked at L's, Dan's, FiVi. No go. ...well, I haven't asked, but I did look.
