Hi, Have a question regarding my work permit. ( I ma based in Hanoi ) I am about to hand in my notice. My employer is wanting to keep/cancel my work permit. Can I keep it, if yes, under what law? According to the contract I am giving 30 days of notice. Can anyone shed some light on it? Many thanks Dawid

I work as an English teacher teaching teenagers and adults academic English. I'm trying to find out if there are any English clubs in Hanoi where my students can go to practise their language outside of class. I know there are several cafes that organise this kind of thing in HCMC, but I've never heard of any here. Does anyone know of any? Cheers.
My Vietnamese driving license expired, and they won't renew it because my US license has also expired. The clerk at the Motor Vehicle department said I have to go back to America and renew my license. I can't do that because to get a driving license in a US state, you have to prove residency in that state, and my only residence is here in Viet Nam. Does anyone know of another way I can get a license? This is really important, as my health insurance won't cover me for an accident if I drive without a license.
Does anyone know it there is a place in Hanoi where I can buy Bat Trang ceramics without actually going to Bat Trang? I want to buy a tea set, some bowls, and some dishes, but have no car to go all the way to Bat Trang. I've seen an old post about Hang Da market, but I think that market has turned into Hang Da Galleria, right?
Seriously, I am finding it crazy hard to find this out. I don't even care about quality at this point (as long as they don't deform my feet). I just have nothing at all to wear to work, and noone seems to make them. I know that going to Bangkok or Hoi An might give me luck, but that is not really an option at this point in time. I'm a size 11 UK (which is 45 Europe, 11.5 US or 279 mm in Korea (you learn something new every day!)) and am literally at my wits end about this. Getting a work permit has been easier than getting a pair of shoes! I can legally work, but noone will let me in the office in my Vans trainers! Please help, lest I remain permanently unemployable...
Anyone interested in book exchange? Or even a mini library (in English; novels, other fiction, non fictions, text books)? I've got 9 books that I'd like to swap. I know that there are book shops that do book exchange, but they tend to be a rip off, (in the past I've exchanged 3 books and money for 1). I'm talking swapping one book for another, fairly. Or, in future, a mini libary where people donate some books then can borrow books forever. I don't think there's an English language library for expats.
Curious about a Reiki sign I saw at the Western Canned Food store awhile ago. It was there for months, but I only just went to check it out this week, and of course, it was gone! boo hoo. If you know this person that was advertising their services or anyone who practices in Hanoi, please let me know. Prefer English speaking person. Thanks, Steph dstephfuccio (at) yahoo.com www.travelgoddess.net

I currently live in a place with wooden shutters on the windows. I find it inconvenient to wake up to a dark room and have to open the shutters every morning. Does anyone leave their shutters open ask the time and just rely on glass windows or is this considered unsafe? No neighbours leave their shutters open overnight..
What Vietnamese slang words do you use? I am trying to learn tiếng Việt, but I think the language teached is very formal. What people speak on the street seems to be quite an other language. So please post some words or phrases of 'slang' and their translations. I already have some young Vietnamese friends on social media. What are some 'simplified' expressions used by the youth today in SMS or internet chat?
Looking for wide angle, primary lens that fits Nikon body. Nikkor, Tamron, Tokina, Sigma are all ok, as long as it's good glass and FULL FRAME. New or used. Not fish-eye. 20mm or wider. I've been to a few shops on Vong Duc, and they seemed hopeful, but all their lenses were zooms. Any suggestions appreciated!
