That's a good idea, actually. I might bring a few board games to Hanoi. It should be possible to find a German version of Monopoly:

I can't even remember how to play the English version.. it's been a while...

This group meets weekly at RR Tavern and we played Monopoly a few times. You could ask them to bring the game next time.

maybe you can drop by or call Gifthaus, they might have what you need. Maybe this one?

Another idea is to use the massive amount of pirated technology on the internet, and marry it with the inexpensive price of photocopy shops in Hanoi and make your own monopoly board.

a basic google search will get you on your way

you could use real VND for Monopoly money, since most of the world seems to deem both to be the same value.

You could use the little figurines that you can buy at tourist shops, like Buddhas (irony noted), ho chi minhs (irony also noted), pigs and turtles and what not for pieces.

Hope that helps

agiercke wrote on June 6th, 2012 at 1:08 pm

I saw both the standard and electronic versions in Landmark Tower - 4th floor I think. Expensive (1.2 million for electronic version) but it is here

Can cheat in the electronic version? That was half the fun, especially when you had the bank.

slim110 wrote on June 6th, 2012 at 6:01 pm

thanks for the invite guys, sounds interesting, but i still want to get one for myself just for a spur of the moment game :P

Good Answer slim110 marked this as a good answer

I believe that they are referring to the new Keangnam landmark tower. It is a brand new skyscraper in the My Dinh/Tu Liem section of Hanoi. Among other things it includes a mall, in which is a toy store, which is indeed on the fourth floor of the main tower. This is where you will find your coveted monopoly game.

For some damn reason it isn't listed as a spot itself, but this is a spot for the gardens at the same location

Or just tell a cabbie to take you to the Keangnam building and you will be whisked away to monopoly heaven.

Yep,I bought Monopoly in the Keangnam building in a toystore there..

PhuongGiap wrote on June 9th, 2012 at 12:07 am

Otono wrote on June 28th, 2012 at 8:45 am

Hi guys who visited the kaengnam toy stores.
What the version of monopoly board game do they have? Is it classic or cartoon character version? And how much does it cost?

Thank you so much for the information. It's not much convenient for me to go there.

pimnl wrote on July 2nd, 2012 at 9:39 pm

It's the classic american version with "boardwalk".
I forgot how much I payed.. Maybe 800.000?

There seems to be a few different Vietnamese versions available:

If you scroll down to the bottom of that link I just posted above, you'll see there's even one called 'Monopoly Saigon', very nicely made version by some expats in Saigon... I wonder if it's possible to find a copy anywhere...

@ Hanoi Ev: somehwere or other on TNH, there is an old, old thread discussing the Monopoly Saigon version and where to purchase it in HCMC.

Sounded like a cool thing to own.

Hey guys. Keangnam doesnt have a toystore anymore. Any idea on where I could find an English Monopoly game in 2015?

seriousacademics wrote on May 11th, 2015 at 4:41 am

Try the stores beside/around Trang Tien Plaza. There are bookstores that sell English game boards like Scrabble. Monopoly might just be one of them.

MrMojoRisin wrote on May 17th, 2015 at 1:46 am

Thanks seriousacademics. Scrabble would be good also. I went to Thang Long bookstore on Trang Tien, and another bookstore on the same street, but neither one of them Scrabble or Monopoly. Do you know the name or address of the store that sells it?

jfseeker wrote on May 28th, 2015 at 2:42 am

Still looking for it ??? Message me

seriousacademics wrote on May 28th, 2015 at 3:10 am

i will go check it out, and send you the details, including the address and prices of those.

seriousacademics wrote on May 29th, 2015 at 4:33 pm

I went to Dinh Le this afternoon, and there were a lot of stores selling Scrabble, and what looked like a Vnmese version of Monopoly. Other board games available.

Scrabble sets go either for 200,000 or 210,000 VND.

Check out these stores:
Nha Sach Ngan Nga - 7B Dinh Le (200,000vnd) Go towards the innermost part of the bookstore. The sales staff understand very little English.

Nha Sach Tan Viet - 7A Dinh Le

Hieu Sach Anh Minh - 13 Dinh Le

Nha Sach Ngan Nga - 17 Dinh Le

These bookstores are very near that main road where the post office is.

Hope this helps.
