I am an British guy in the UK and I wish to sponsor my partner who is Vietnamese in HCM City to come and study in the UK. To do this he must have £10K in his bank account for about 2 months to show he can afford to be in the UK for the English language course. This is purely for the visa requirements.

So it appears simple to transfer funds to his bank account, then before he arrives in the autumn, and after securing the visa, he can send the money back to me.

He does not have a bank account here.

Having spoken to him and read many threads on here, I can see it is not a simple request to move money in and out of a VN bank.

We can prove that I sponsor him and when he gets formally accepted by the college we will have evidence this is where the money will be spent.

So do I transfer smaller amounts over a few weeks? Does he visit the bank and explain the situation before I transfer ? How do we get the money back to the UK ? I see some rates are extremely high and expensive. I use Remitly to transfer but I have been told he cannot use it in VN.

All advice is appreciated .

NB update: I think I have the answer. Use TRANSFERWISE to move money so it does not go to VN bank account.
