If I get an HSBC dollar account here in Vietnam, can I use the debit card (that has a Visa logo on it) to make purchases online? For example, if I want to order from Amazon, will I be able to do so? Connect my account to iTunes?
Iwas trying to make a debit card for those purposes too before, i just went in and said that was what i wanted, but most banks that i found said i have to pay a percentage for online orders. Anyway it must be possible because some of my vietnamese friends can order things online with their visa debit cards (e.g. Plane tickets)
i recently got a hsbc card through my work and i asked them the same thing. no with a debt card but yes with a credit card. however i wasnt entirely clear on this part but you either need to have 3 months of salary in your account already or preload your credit card with 3 months salary. If you go with MB bank and get a mastercard through them, you can make online purchases.
Have an ANZ debit card that occasionally does work online (air tickets being one of the times it does). Haven't worked out the logic as to why it does in some cases and not others although I think it's something to do with refundability. Credit card always works but is an absolute pain in the arse to get through ANZ.
I have an HSBC debit card but never try doing it. I have another debit card with Standard Chartered Bank. It works with accommodation and air ticket booking online with certain service suppliers (not Vietnam Airlines) and online bank fees are charged. But I have never succeeded in buying things with it on Amazon. I have to use a credit card with ANZ or HSBC instead.
