Hi. My employer has threaten to cancel my visa that they got for me. She and I had signed for a probationary contract that's supposed to take effect on dec 1 2019, now when I talk to my employer she's offering a probationary period that we did not discuss before and not included in the contract. Consequently, I negotiated for them to honor the original contract we both signed for. And now, she wishes to terminate it unilaterally and cancel my visa. She told me to go to the immigration office but I refused to do so. May I ask your opinion, suggestions about this? Thanks for your reply
Heading home ... and looking to send about 10 medium/large boxes (probably about 15-30kg per box) of personal effects (books, kitchen stuff, DVDs, clothes, etc.), no furniture. Does anyone have any good experience of shipping companies that will do this (and not cost more than the contents are worth)? Speed is not an issue, 3 months by surface (sea) would be fine. I asked at the Post Office (at Ho Hoan Kiem), but they said VND5,850,000 (US$250) for a 20Kg box. That was the cheapest rate!
This country is a nice country. Unfortunately, many locals have been talking about the bad chemicals in the food that farmers have used to keep the fruit, vegetables, and meat fresh. Additionally, lots of food is being imported from China. One case said that some chicken eaten today is being imported from either the 1960s or 1970s. One case stated that they have chemicals to turn pork into beef. Another case stated some are suffering from sickness and death due to the harmful chemicals in the food. The last case heard was that in some restaurants, they were reusing the old hotpot water from other restaurants to save money. With all these food issues, many people have decided to not go to restaurants or buy food from local farmers. Of course, we wish that something was being done about a...

I'm a Japanese person living in Hanoi. My current visa will expire on 4th January so need to update it. I hope to get 3 months multiple tourist visa by visa on arrival. However, I cannot take flight so need to get visa by land this time. So far, the agents could prepare visa letters before I reentered other borders by land. I want to try the same way to get visa at Lao Cai border and have a short trip in Hekou this time. But most of visa agents don’t seem to support making visa letter for the immigration of Lao Cai border.. Anyways, I’d be glad if you share information or guide me the best way for this case. Thank you,

Hi everyone! So I need to obtain a Criminal records check "Ly lich Tu phap" from the National Center for Criminal Records in Vietnam. I am a Uk citizen who no longer resides in Vietnam. I need this certificate to pass security clearances in my new job in the UK. I have looked through the Vietnamese embassy in the UK's website for advice and it appears that it can be done but you need to authorise someone in Vietnam to do it for you. I have no contacts in Hanoi who could possibly do this for me. http://vietnamembassy.org.uk/index.php?action=p&ct=Consular%20Services%20for%20Ireland%20residents#PCHECK I have contacted a few law firms about this and have been quoted $500(!) to do this. Does anyone know of anyone else offering this sort of service at a better price? Any hel...

A good Vietnamese friend of mine is getting married soon, and I need to buy a gift. Yes, I know that tradition calls for money, but I'm not a traditionalist! I'm thinking of a really nice pendulum clock, what do you think? I won't be going to the wedding since it's halfway to HCM.
Though I am sure about moving to Vietnam this summer to teach English and travel for the following year, I haven't yet made up my mind if I want to live in one of the big cities or smaller town like Da Nang. I'll have time to travel around before settling. My question is a simple one: is the job market about as good in a smaller town like Da Nang as in HCMC? If you're moving without a Work Permit, do you think a small town might be risky because the schools will have more oversight from the police? Or should I not worry about it and trust that as long as there are English schools, there is the opportunity to work? I've got plenty of years of experience teaching and a CELTA Pass A to defend myself with. Lastly, what are some of the towns with good expat communities and good work oppor...
Hello ! I will be leaving Vietnam in 3 weeks and for salary reasons, I cannot close my Vietnamese Bank account. I will be able to withdraw money from it whilst in Europe. I was wondering what will eventually happen if I do not close my account? Will it just be frozen over a certain period of time ? Thanks !
