Coming to to Hanoi and may be teaching English (like everyone else it seems). thinking of bringing up few good text books and dictionaries (eg Collins Cobuild). Is this an overkill?....are there plenty of good book stores up there with modern teaching stuff. Any help appreciated Philip Beaton

This was my New Year's Resolution and it is now May so I thought it was about time I got started on it. I was wondering if anyone knew of an environmental awareness group that was set up here in Hanoi, and if not I was thinking of perhaps setting one up and was wondering if anyone was interested in being involved with it. Most of the people who read this site are from Western countries and as such they waste and consume much more than most people in Vietnam. However, on a recent trip to Canada, I realised that it is now quite easy to live a 'low impact on the environment' life should you wish to. There are so many recycling possibilities, organic everything, natural or lower impact cleaning products for the house, public transport is SOMETIMES very good etc etc. This is a def incr...

Does anyone know where to buy tickets from Hanoi to Bangkok using cash? The Air Asia outlet we went to said they didn't accept cash there (go figure that they don't want our money?!?). My credit card has expired since coming here, so I can't buy them online. On a second note, does anyone know if its possible to use a friend's credit card if they aren't traveling with you, and without being asked to produce the card at check-in at the airport? We've had gracious offers from people to put the tickets on their card, but I'm afraid of being refused boarding due to the above mentioned scenarios, and don't really want to risk losing $400 US on a hope and prayer. Any advice would be appreciated as we want to travel next week. Thanks all!!!

Hello, A group of us (7) will be in Hanoi for approximately a month to receive extra training in Trad Medicine. We were wondering if you could recommend a hotel near Lenin Park as the hospital is located on Nguyen Binh Khiem. An alternative we were thinking in terms of accomodation is renting a house or villa around the area. Do you think this is a good idea? Thanks for your input!

Hi, I need a place where I can make a huge amount of color copies, or prints, whatever works best, that can bind them. Preferably wire binding. If so can someone please post this information? Hint, I need to get this done before Tet, so big rush! Thanks Jennifer

Hello all ELT teachers, Am planning to do the CELTA training here in Paris, how difficult is it to pass? Has been some time since I studied grammar, syntax etc. formally, way back in US high school days. Thanks for your feedback on this.

We have heard a rumour that upon leaving Vietnam you can get your tax back from working as an ESL teacher. I've been looking on the internet but everything sounds a bit vague. We've been paying 10% tax while we have been working as non-contracted casual teachers, for approximately 20 hours a week. Is there a specific length of time that you need to work to be entitled to this? ie. 6 months? Is there anywhere you can get official inormation and should my school know about it when I put it to them?

Hi, I have been sent on a mission by a friend back home to buy him a REAL cigarette lighter as used by the american GI's during the war. Can anyone tell me if such a beast exists and if so where I might be able to purchase it at a reasonable price. Also can anyone tell me how I would recognise it as the genuine article ? Any information would be appreciated. Thanks! Scott

Has anyone visited the Ecole Francaise d'Extreme Oriens (EFEO)library at 54 Ngo Ha Hoi? I'm interested in stopping by on a return visit to Ha Noi later this year and will be grateful for any information or comments. There is a short article about the EFEO on Vietnam Pathfinder website. Thanks in advance.
